Well here we are in the season of Bridie the Maiden Goddess!
The Wheel of the Year turns so fast, or is it that I am getting old and time flies too quickly?!
It is comforting however, that as the wheel turns the Goddess comes like an old friend visiting for a while, bringing special gifts, challenging us to change with the seasons.
Now at lmbolc, The Maiden Goddess, Brigit, takes back the black rod from the Calliach of Winter, and once in Her young hands it turns white. Now She strikes the earth with Her white rod, and re-awakens the land from the cold dark days of deep Winter.
Imbolc is always a challenge, the days begin to lengthen, you glimpse the Sun, and feel it's gentle warmth, and then it's cold again and the days are dull and grey!
But you know if you really look hard you can see where Brigit's rod has struck the ground; snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils are beginning to push up their spiky leaves from the cold earth.
She has awakened the earth and all living things, but do we dare allow Her to awaken our souls, so that we can renew our lives with the promise of the coming Spring, and open our hearts to the Goddess?
Here at Hedgewitch House I am preparing for a Workshop connecting to the Goddess Brigit, Her legends, sacred animals, values and talisman are many and varied, and yet they are all interconnected, She truly is an amazing Goddess!
I am busy too, looking up recipes for the season, soon I shall be up to my elbows in soda flour, making soda bread, or baking scones and honey cakes.
I have made Bridie Crosses for friends who visit to bring them prosperity and good fortune for the coming year, and my altar is very pretty bedecked with snowdrops, swans, and my Bridie Doll.
Yes it is good to have Bridie with us, She brings us Her light and promises us the Spring.
Happy Imbolc to you all, Bright Blessings and Blessed Be!
